You are not alone, and it is okay to seek help or support.
Domestic and family violence is a devastating reality that affects many in our community.
First Nations women face some of the highest rates of violence in the world.
For many victims of family violence, financial constraints present an overwhelming barrier to escaping dangerous situations. Financial counselling services, along with dedicated domestic and family violence support, can offer a crucial lifeline.
These services can help people regain their autonomy. Because you shouldn’t have to have to choose between safety and economic stability.
Together, we must work towards a much safer community and country, where every woman and child is given the protection and support they deserve. That includes the men in our community who need to say ‘No more’ like Charlie King. There are also resources for men who want to change their behaviour.
Sometimes it may be that the man needs to leave the home or share accommodation. In that case there are supports available.
Reporting Domestic and Family Violence
Under Northern Territory (NT) law you must report domestic and family violence to NT police. This includes if someone has been seriously hurt or is in danger of being hurt. You must do this as soon as possible.
Call 000 if you or someone you know is in immediate danger.
If it's not an emergency, call police on 131 444.
You don’t have to give your name and contact details if you don’t want to.
Child protection hotline
In the Northern Territory (NT), you must report your concerns if you believe a child is being, or has been, harmed or abused. This is a legal responsibility under the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 and is called mandatory reporting.
You can contact the child protection reporting line on 1800 700 250 - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or - report a concern online on at https://careservices.nt.gov.au/
